Lobby Renovation

A more accessible and welcoming health facility is something to celebrate. That’s why Lacombe Trust members, AHS staff, community members and local dignitaries gathered at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre in the fall of 2025, in recognition of the hospital’s lobby renovations and new Indigenous art installation.

The lobby renovation began in 2024 with the intention of not simply providing a facelift, but instead making substantial changes to sightlines, ease of movement and safety. Renovations included replacing a worn and uneven tile floor, lowering admitting desks to improve access for wheelchair users, and adapting three washrooms to meet mobility needs. The work was funded in large part by the Lacombe Health Trust, with additional support from the Province’s Functional Infrastructure Maintenance Program.

An installation of artwork by award-winning digital storyteller Dr. Bert Crowfoot was part of the work. The Indigenous imagery shows peaceful moments at sunrise, day and night.

“Everyone here is tremendously grateful to the Lacome Health Trust and the community for making these changes possible,” says Connie Sage, site manager for the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre. “It’s important that this facility be a safe, accessible and welcoming place for everyone.”

Jim Dixon, Board Chair of the Lacombe Health Trust, recognized the time and dedication that went into the project.

“We are very proud of the investment we’ve made to create a more accessible and inclusive environment for everyone at the Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre,” says Dixon. “We believe these updates will make a significant difference in the experience of patients, families and staff. We are truly appreciative of the people who support our Trust – once again, they have made a positive impact on the delivery of health care in our community.”

The event was attended by dignitaries, including MLA for Lacombe-Ponoka Jennifer Johnson, Lacombe Mayor Grant Creasey, Lacombe Councillor Thalia Hibbs and board members from the Lacombe Health Trust, including Chair Jim Dixon Jr., Connie Sage, and Jim Dixon. MLA Johnson spoke at the celebration.

Mayor Creasey praised his community and the Lacombe Health Trust for making the renovations possible.

“Everyone, from patients and visitors to staff, needs to feel comfortable and safe in this place. These renovations have gone a long way to make this a better place for the entire community.  That’s thanks to the Lacombe Health Trust and the many generous donors who contributed to this work.”
